Active Release Techniques®

Active Release Techniques®, or ART®, is a soft tissue technique that focuses on treating overuse conditions specific to muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia, and nerves. Overuse injuries result in scar tissue buildup in soft tissue that causes reduced strength, a reduced range of motion, and/or pain. By treating the specific site of injury, ART® enables the soft tissue to return to its proper function.

What to Expect

Your session will begin with a patient interview where we discuss your activities, symptoms, and goals regarding treatment. An assessment will be done to determine if the location of your pain is only a symptom of another problem or the actual cause of pain. Then, ART® will be performed to treat the issue.

Session Options

45 minutes – If this is your first visit, this is the session for you. I’ll do a thorough interview and assessment, then move on to treatment. Most first sessions take a full 45 minutes, but if it’s closer to 30 minutes, you’ll be charged the lesser rate. Also, if you are an established client coming in due to a new issue, please choose this option.

30 minutes – Please choose this option for any follow-up sessions. Because a full assessment was done during your first visit, a therapy plan has already been decided on and subsequent sessions are quicker.

15 minutes – The express session. If you only need a tune-up and it has previously been discussed that a quick session will work for you, this is also an option.

What to Wear

ART® can be performed directly on the skin or through clothes. If at all possible, please wear workout clothes. Thinner materials are easier to work through and therefore, the technique will be more effective. Shorts or tights for lower body treatments and tank tops for the upper body are preferred.
